But after my first week of running late for class, dealing with unpredictable rickshaw rates, and walking back from the Kharar Bus Stand in the summer heat, I knew I had to find a better solution.

Owning a vehicle wasn’t realistic for me. I was here for 8–10 months and didn’t want to go through the hassle of buying, registering, insuring, and then reselling a scooter. Renting just made more sense — no maintenance, no paperwork headaches, and complete freedom to move when and where I wanted.
My First Experience: Renting an Activa near Kharar Bus Stand
I found a local vendor near the Kharar Bus Stand. Nothing fancy — just a small board that said “Bike on Rent.” I walked in, and the guy had a few two-wheelers parked outside: a couple of Honda Activas, a Pulsar, and even a Royal Enfield Thunderbird.
He explained the basics clearly. For a daily rental, the Activa was ₹400, but for a monthly plan, it came down to ₹3,500 (with basic terms). I just had to show my driving license, an Aadhaar card, and pay a ₹1,000 security deposit. He handed over the key, a helmet, and a fuelled-up scooter — and I was all set.
I cannot explain how freeing that first ride felt. No waiting, no bargaining. I could stop wherever I wanted — grab snacks from Phase 3B2, head to CU Gate without stress, or even visit a friend in Mohali without worrying about transport.
Types of Bikes You Can Rent in Kharar
Most rental shops in Kharar have a pretty standard fleet. Here’s what I’ve seen and used personally:
Honda Activa / TVS Jupiter – Ideal for daily errands and student travel. Lightweight, easy to handle, and great mileage.
Bajaj Pulsar / Yamaha FZ – Better for long-distance commutes or if you're more into geared bikes.
Royal Enfield Classic / Thunderbird – If you’re planning weekend getaways to Morni Hills or Kasauli, these are perfect.
You can even find listings online for bike rental near Chandigarh University, though the best deals I found were through word of mouth or walking into small shops.
What It Costs to Rent a Bike in Kharar
Costs are pretty reasonable, especially for students:
Scooters (Activa, Jupiter) – ₹300 to ₹500 per day, or ₹3,000–₹4,500 per month
Standard bikes (Pulsar, FZ, Shine) – ₹500 to ₹700 per day
Cruisers (Royal Enfield) – ₹900 to ₹1,300 per day
If you’re staying for more than two weeks, monthly rentals are way more affordable. Most rentals come with 1 or 2 helmets, and fuel is usually not included (you return it with the same amount it had when you picked it up).

Here’s what I’ve learned after a few months of renting in Kharar:
Always inspect the bike first — Don’t rush. Check brakes, indicators, horn, and tires.
Take photos — Especially if you notice scratches or dents. Saves you from disputes later.
Ask about late return policies — Some shops charge hourly if you're late. Others are chill. Better to clarify up front.
Carry your own helmet — The ones they provide are usable but not always clean or comfortable.
Where Can You Go from Kharar on a Rented Bike?
One of the best things about bike rental is weekend freedom. Here are a few short trips I’ve taken:
Mohali and Chandigarh – Obvious choices. Smooth roads, shopping spots, and cafes.
Morni Hills – A peaceful escape just a little over an hour away. Great ride through green forest routes.
Pinjore Gardens or Timber Trail – Both scenic and close enough for a day ride.
Kasauli – Around 65 km, ideal for a chilled Sunday ride if you’ve got a sturdy bike.
Is Kharar Bike Rental Worth It?
Honestly, if you're in Kharar for studies, work, or even a short stay, renting a bike is one of the smartest things you can do. It's affordable, practical, and flexible, especially in a town where transport options are limited and distances aren’t exactly walkable.
Plus, there’s something about riding through Sunny Enclave or along the Landran Road with music in your ears and no one else’s schedule to worry about. It gives you freedom — the kind that makes Kharar feel a little more like home.
